Is Photography Art?

In my readings many of the photographers of the early 20th century I look up to were very focused on whether photography was art. Ansel was particularly focused on showing photography was an art form that could rival painting. The modern digital photography age has certainly complicated this question, but is photography too easy and involve too little of a personal involvement to be art. My feeling is that anything can be art. I tend to prefer art that involves some skill of dedication to be good at. In the software world this is called meritocracy, There is also a mixing of art and craft. Honestly it may be that I appreciate craft more than I do art. That's OK for me, maybe not for you.
